Fennec foxes typically give birth to just one single litter of pups per year. A normal litter contains between two and five young. Males fiercely defend the females before and during the birth process. The father provides fresh food to the female until the pups reach about four weeks old. The young are born with a full coat of fur but they are completely blind. Their eyes open after eight to eleven days. They are able to walk around at about two weeks of age. Pups usually nurse for their first ten weeks of life. They achieve full maturity at nine to eleven months of age.
